Bill Filing Starts

Today is the first day that filing is opened for the Texas Legislature. Already some 135 House Bills and 168 Senate Bills have been filed. In the first 3 hours, more than double the bills were filed that were in the entire first day for the last session. It is estimated that 5,000 bills will be filed. And all of them have to be dealt with in 140 days. That rounds out to about 38 bills a day (50, if you don't include weekends). Oh, the joys of a limited Legislative Session. Perhaps it is time to consider an annual session. I don't think it would cause the immediate destruction of the state, but it might help to have more competent bills passed.
